Romans 8:26

“In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.”

Sometimes when I pray, I feel like I never have the right words to say. I hear others pray, and I wonder how some people always know what to say in their prayers. This verse has taught and reminded me that God does not expect us to have all the right words to say when we pray. God created us. He knows our hearts. He knows every thought we ever think.

So why do we still go to prayer when he already knows what we are going to pray for? We go to prayer to align our hearts with his. We humble ourselves before the Lord to build intimacy and a relationship with our Father. We aren’t informing the Lord of anything new. He already knows.

When we are entering a time of struggle, we can come to God honestly. When we gave our lives to Christ, we were given the Holy Spirit to live inside of us every single moment. The Holy Spirit helps us in those moments.

God meets us in our brokenness. It is not a failure. We take our sins and brokenness to the feet of Jesus, and he turns them into joy.

God understands our prayers even when we don’t know how to explain them. It is better to be honest and silent than to blabber for the “look” of it.

The Holy Spirit intercedes for us. The Holy Spirit knows the will of God and helps align our hearts with it. We do not need to have fancy words for the Lord to hear us. He is present with our suffering.

God is near to us. He is near to the brokenhearted. He hears our cries and prayers.
