Hebrews 12:1-2

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus.” This scripture encourages us to remain focused on Christ, keeping our motivations aligned with His purpose.

Sometimes I think about Christianity and other believers, and I remember that we are all running the same race. When we believe in Christ, we all have the same end goal.

The Christian life is described as a race that requires endurance. Following Jesus is not always easy, but it is worth it.

One thing I have been told that always stuck was, “persecution is not personal”. Persecution or, in a simpler term, rejection, should not affect us as much as it does. Yes, rejection is hard. Nobody likes to be rejected. But when someone turns away a seed or gospel presentation that has been planted, it is not personal to us. They are simply rejecting Jesus, not us.

The Christian life does come with trials and rejection. This is why we are called to remain faithful and keep our hearts aligned with God, knowing that His ways are always better, even when we cannot see the light at the end of the tunnel.

We cannot run the race well when we are being dragged down by our sin. We cannot hold onto our sin when we haven’t given it to the Lord first. One thing the Lord has been teaching me is that as soon as I have a thought that is not from Him, is to simply lay it down at his feet first. I tend to go to my friends first for everyhting instead of getting advice from my Heavenly Father.

We were never meant to run this race alone. Community can edify us to keep going consistently and stronger. This verse reminds us not to quit during difficult seasons, but also tells us that sometimes we need to give up distractions to stay focused on the Lord.

God is more concerned with faithfulness than speed. Comparing our race to someone else’s can distract us from what God has called us to do. We are called to stay focused on Christ, not consumed by the opinions of others.
